fiction writing
I love to write literary short stories as well as novels for young adults. One of my short stories, "Literacy," was Runner-Up in the 2006 Permafrost Midnight Sun Fiction Contest, and I was awarded third prize in the 2005 Smartwriters Write It Now short story contest for young adult fiction (anthology forthcoming, Blooming Tree Press). I also co-founded two blogs about YA literature, Finding Wonderland and Readers' Rants, and contribute reviews to the online children's literature journal The Edge of the Forest.

articles & business writing
I've written profiles, humor, and educational pieces for a variety of websites and print publications, including the Mills Quarterly, the informational website Suite101.com, the BBC Wales website, the entertainment website IGN.com, and San Joaquin Woman Magazine (article forthcoming 8/13/2008). I have also done business writing, including letters, employee handbooks, marketing copy, and reports, for clients such as the Stanislaus County Office of Education, IGN.com, the State Theatre of Modesto, and Cymdeithas Madog.

editing, research & consulting
I also assist with the beginning and the end of the writing process—research and editing, respectively! I've worked with individual writers, with businesses, and with schools, on projects as diverse as background research for books, arts curriculum research, reports, and newsletters. Clients have included the Stanislaus County Office of Education, IGN.com, the Modesto Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Riverside School for the Arts. Some projects have also included desktop publishing.
